In the meantime, parents and residents in the area of the park where the shooting took place are overwhelmed with worry and anxiety about just how safe their neighborhood really is. Police are actively investigating the shooting and hope to bring the perpetrator of this act of violence to justice in the very near future. ![]() A private party transported the two victims to the hospital to be treated for what authorities said appeared to be non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. She indicated that she saw one of the victims grab his stomach after he was shot. Renee Lee, a school crossing guard, witnessed the frightening incident. Officers from the Elk Grove Police Department locked down both schools for more than 30 minutes while they initiated a search for a suspect. Approximately 250 students were still on the high school campus and about 60 students were at the middle school when the shooting occurred. Authorities said the boys were shot by an unidentified party. The students were hanging out at the park about 25 minutes after school had let out. Middle School and Monterey Trail High School. There was a large gathering of students watching a fight between 2-3 people at 3:15 p.m. Out of an abundance of caution, two Cosumnes Oaks High School staff members, who intervened to protect students, were transported to a local hospital. Letter Emailed To Cosumnes Oaks High ParentsĪfterwards, Xanthi Pinkerton, Spokeswoman at Elk Grove Unified School District, sent the same letter the principal had sent, as well as two more messages to local news media. The incident created some alarm because a helicopter was seen over Horseshoe Park, which frightened residents and parents.
